By seasoning firewood over time, it allows for the moisture to evaporate and the wood to fully dry out, ensuring that the fire does not burn out quicker than expected. Using seasoned firewood is also more beneficial for the environment. Unseasoned wood produces a lot of smoke which can accumulate in your chimney and eventually affect your health.

How do you know if wood has been seasoned?

  1. Looks – Seasoned wood is usually a pale colour and has some cracks and the bark can be made loose very easily.
  2. Weight – Seasoned wood is lighter compared to unseasoned wood.
  3. Sound – Seasoned wood makes a knocking sound that is quite clear.
